Wrap-Up
On April 1, NODA held their annual 501 All-Star
Tournament at Airway Lanes in Waterford.
Competing for the ladies in the Hearts group were
Lisa Jones, Jacquelynn Boughner, Dee Smith, Carol Dobek, and Sue Dykes.

Competing for the men in the Spades group were Jeff
Chapel, John Upham, John Findlay, Kyle Nabors, Chuck Parrot, and Rich
McClelland.

Competing for the men in the Clubs group were Harry
Kwaitkowski, Pat Whelan, Randy Whelan, Michael Abbott, Tim Jones, and Mike Dobek.
The
match of the day, or at least this round, may have been Abbott vs. Kwaitkowski.
In the first game, Abbott started
off with a 180.
A couple of turns later,
Kwaitkowski flashed a 180 of his own.
Abbott miscalculated an out
allowing Kwaitkowski to take the game.
In the second game Kwaitkowski
missed 3 darts at 32 which Abbott took advantage of to check out a 79.
In the final game, with Abbott
sitting on 201, Kwaitkowski checked out a 136 to take the match, 2-1.
The proved costly for Abbott in
the final standings as he missed a second round spot by one point.

The finals group consisted of Harry Kwaitkowski, Mike
Dobek, John Findlay, and Jeff Chapel.
The
match of the finals was Dobek vs. Findlay.
At the time, the players didn’t
realize they were tied at 5 points a piece.
This match was going to decide who
advanced to the National Qualifier.
Findlay started off with a 140,
followed by Dobek’s 180, with Findlay answering with a 100.
Eventually Findlay checked out a
double 2 to take the game. The next game saw Dobek starting off with a 100,
followed by Findlay’s 121. In the end, Dobek took the out.
The match was tied and for the
final game of the day for both players.
In the deciding game of the day,
Dobek won the cork and started off with a 100, followed by Findlay’s 45.
Dobek replied with a 41, and
Findlay with a 21.
Dobek hit a triple to score 85,
and Findlay struggled to find his shot, hitting a 41.
Dobek continued his strong
shooting with another 85 and Findlay replied with a 22.
With Dobek standing on 190, he hit
a 40 to leave 150.
Findlay could only muster a 26 to
get down to 346.
Dobek slipped, hitting a 23.
Findlay replied with a 61. Sitting
on 127, Dobek shot an 87 to set himself up for a double tops out.
Findlay found the triple, hitting
an 83 to leave 202.
Dobek checked out the 40 to win
the tournament.

They will be representing NODA at
the National Qualifier (Formerly called the Regional) in Warren, MI at the
Commonwealth Club on April 28th.
There were seven 180’s were shot on the day.
